The Old Camp Gettysburg

Here is the last Lucerne Washington post office. It was in the Lucerne store operated by Oscar Getty. He and his wife Mona operated the small store. Its operation ceased in the 1960s. I don't know when the last mail delivery occured but it was likely in the 1960s as well

I must ask why the blog on Lucerne? I love Lucerne as do a few others but you don't live very close by, are you a Holden Village vistior?

Thanks for looking at the blog. My attraction to Lucerne comes from spending time up there each summer. My wife's grandfather and grandmother were Oscar and Mona Getty. Oscar left the Lucerne resort property to his grandchildren. We are fortunate to go to the cabins each year. We do like to visit Holden to get ice cream at least once while we are there. My wife's mother and father met there in the 1950s when she was a mining company nurse and he was a mining engineer.

A Holden miners reunion is scheduled this September.

Oscar Getty became postmaster at Lucerne on December 31, 1924 and retired in 1956. The Lucerne post office closed the day he retired.
